Ever since i left Melbourne, I’ve always had a hankering for a good handmade pizza. How i missed the rousing aroma of freshly baked dough. Don’t even let me get started on the taste! In Singapore, there are many restaurants serving fresh home made pizza, but very few specializes in them. Many of them have selections that are mundane and run- of- the- mill. Skinny pizza is too skinny for me, the crust is hard and not satisfactory enough. Spizza is pretty good but it does not hit the spot. The spot meaning the part of your tummy that you feel this comfortable warmth and your taste buds are left satisfied. You do not want to eat another bite for fear of spoiling the perfection you were fortunate enough to taste. I’m pretty picky, only having this feeling 3 times.
So when i unsuspectingly bit into a slice of Pistachio Pesto pizza, i was transported back into Melbourne again. The interesting bit about the pizza is the pesto which really heightened the flavor. It’s akin to putting truffles. Being subtle, you can’t really pinpoint the taste but yes, its there. Add in a combination of mozzarella, baby arugula, lemon vinaigrette and shaved parmigiano reggiano, it brings about a wonderful combination of salinity, tanginess and an unexplainable warmth. The baby arugula helps to neutralize the flavors a little bit as it might be too overpowering. Just beautiful! It totally hit the spot.
Next, my friends and i ordered the Spicy Pepperoni pizza. The crust was nicely charred and the dough was warm and soft. It was not bad, but i would prefer Spizzas version better. This pizza had tomato, mozzarella, spicy pepperoni, chili flakes and oregano. The pepperoni was a little too spicy for me, i remember feeling a little annoyed with the constant fiery sensation which resulted in the other flavors to remain hidden.
For dessert we ordered the Nutella Panna Cotta which was silky smooth. Usually panna cotta has a rich flavor but there was only a hint of nutella. It was pretty refreshing. We ordered the lobster tail dessert which was really a crust filling filled with cream. Those were a little hard, my grandpa wouldn’t approve. Too bad I did not get a photo of it.
As you can see from my post, the biggest draw is definitely the Pistachio pesto pizza. I would go back there just to have another bite of that savory goodness. Oh my biggest surprise was that there was no chocolate pizza! It would be such a good idea to have nutella on that delicious pizza dough they have..hmm.. and top it up with some bananas..
